When my long time clients tell me that their family is growing my heart gets SO excited. I have loved watching big brother grow over the last few years and I have become great friends with this wonderful family. I feel so honored that through my photography I have connected with people who inspire me, and who’s story I get to tell through my work.
We had our maternity photo session on a very warm summer evening. Mommy and Daddy are so great about planning for our sessions together so brother is rested (naptime was changed over the course of the week prior to push bedtime back for an evening session), They came early so he had time to have a meal and play time before time for photos and then the number one most important factor.. they are so wonderful about keeping the session playful and going with the flow.
Working with toddlers and preschool age children is rewarding and fun.. it also takes a little planning.. when deciding on the best time for your session always consider your childs happiest time of day… do they tend to get overwhlemed? Shut down if they get stressed out? Snacks and special items from home help a lot. Keeping your child in clothing that is comfortable and easy to move in also brings out the happy playful spirit of your toddler.
Having so many loyal clients who grow with me gives me a unique perspective as well. I know children can be a bit uneasy with meeting a new person holding a big camera asking them to do silly things. I work very hard to connect with the children I photograph and get to know them and what they like. Each child is so different. I want them to feel comfortable and ready to open up to me with those authentic smiles.
I had such a great evening watching the sunset from the Columbia River during their maternity session. I also was honored with taking both birth and newborn photos for this family as well. Now that its January I am getting ready for baby brothers 6 month and big brother’s 4 year photos coming up next month.. stay tuned for some more cutness.
