I can’t get enough what can I say.. there is something so magical to me about vintage quilts. Partially because I grew up around a lot of quilts.
My grandma is a wonderful seamstress and made me and my siblings beautiful works of art growing up.. My mom being an excellent thrifter, antique and vintage collector found beautiful quilts with feedback prints from the 1920’s. As I grew up I too caught the thrifting bug and have filled my childhood bedrooms with funky retro finds. I am obsessed with color and love to find new patterns to admire. My quilt and afghan stash has grown with me for about the last 15 years…you will never be cold at my house no matter how chilly a Washington winter can get
I have made a few quilts myself so I know how much love how much work and how much time goes into creating a quilt.. so when I find one at an antique shop.. especially one made by HAND.. it generally finds it’s way into my loving arms 😉
While many quilt collectors buy those immaculate quilts that were stored in a chest for 100 years I am little more relaxed… also I like to spend way less money on my finds so a few holes and worn spots don’t bother me at all. I love being free to just toss it in the washer and let my kiddos and the children and families I photograph have freedom to just play with and love on those quilts. Thats what they are made for right? All that love poured into the stitches was made to be used 😉
Here are a few photos I took a few minutes to look back through some sessions to find.. Such a teeny sampling of what I have.
Now I am off to a session this morning..which may be our only non rainy day in Vancouver this week. My client who’s more like a friend now that I have photographed her family and babies several times emailed me last night.. “could you bring that one quilt” then a few minutes ago another long time client/friend sends me a text.. hey Sarah how about bringing some quilts tonight for our session.. I think I have worked my obsession into something amazing because clearly I am attracting some clients with amazing taste
